A big, big thank you to my friends and family for your support over the past few weeks while I’ve been between jobs. It certainly kept me going and made the waiting easier to cope with. Even Hector phoned me yesterday to see how I was getting on (and he never phones unless its an Aussie emergency!)

The good news is that yesterday I accepted a role with one of Britain’s leading retailers, Marks and Spencer and I hopefully start in a week or so.

It’s not the usual project manager type role, though it will involve managing various large ecommerce projects. Great fun in itself, but probably not enough to have attracted me on its own.

But the main aspect of the job is to help improve the ways of working between M & S and its web host / developer, Amazon, so that there is greater visibility of what’s being done, and changes/projects are delivered faster and better. Apparently, both parties are keen to improve things and looking for someone to drive it to happen.

It was this bit that attracted me to this role above the other one I was offered. Fixing a very challenging and high profile relationship for the benefit of both parties. I think I’ll love it.

Maybe its because I’ve been a consultant but I look on my career as a series of things I’ve achieved rather than job titles I’ve held. And “improving the amazon relationship” will hopefully be something I can add to my cv in a year or so’s time.

I’ll also get some hands-on experience of big ecommerce projects and programmes and some retail sector experience along the way.

And it will be a big enough challenge to drive me out of bed in the morning and get stuck into it. Which was simply what I wanted all along.

And sdf is pleased as she also gets an M & S discount card

Everyday, do something you love.

Wise advice from the wonderful comedian, George Burns. (Thanks Kimberly, for sharing it).

Here are more wise words from Steve Jobs, founder of Apple.

Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

Its so very true. It takes courage and often great risk to break out of a rut, to get yourself back onto your feet after a setback and to stick to your principles and goals, but its so totally worth it.

I’m currently waiting to hear about two jobs, both of which I’d love to do, as they would allow me to do what I love doing.

Last night I asked my partner what one I should choose. “Which ever one makes you happiest” was her reply.

I know I took a risk by leaving my previous job, especially in the current climate. And I might not get either of these two jobs – but I had to do it. And if I don’t get either of these jobs, I’ll re-group and get back out there again and keep looking for another ideal opportunity. Life goes on.

Being happy – with your job, your friends, your family, your life. Its simple, its free, and its what its all about.
