For ages, I’ve been trying to figure out a way of extracting (only) the content of my FAQ blog and providing it within the layout of my new site. Sounds easy enough – you’d think.
I guess technically this means something like exporting posts from Blogger in XML format and then including them as a kind of RSS feed on my site. Or something like that – RSS has always been a bit of a mystery to me, I guess because I still just don’t get what’s so great about it.

Anyway, the other day at work we held a lunch and learn about Yahoo Pipes. I’d dabbled in them before, figuring it might be one answer to my problem, but though I could extract the data from Blogger using a pipe I could never work out how to publish the data extract on my site.

But during the lunch and learn, the demo showed it was indeed possible to somehow do this.

The answer involved using FeedBurner.

So I had another go at it, and sure enough I could extract the data from blogger via pipes, then convert it into a feed by running the pipe url through FeedBurner.

Yeah – and then I got stuck again.

But handily, on the FeedBurner site there was mention of yet another site – called SpringWidgets. I just needed to insert the url for my yahoo pipe into a tool on their site and instantly I received the code to use to display a widget on my site with a feed of my FAQs.

Finally, I appear to have a workable – though not ideal – solution. Here it is.

I’m sure I did it the long way, and I’m certain there is an easier way, but this will do for now. Next step is to amend the code so it validates.
